Cool Refrigerator Styles That Are Just Your Type

Deciding on the best refrigerator for your home can be a little complicated—there are so many options! Thankfully, we’re here to help narrow down the basics of what you need to know.

Standard Depth Refrigerators

Refrigerators come in three different depths: standard, built-in, and counter depth. Standard-depth refrigerators stand between 30 and 34 inches wide, up to 34 inches deep, and can up to 70 inches tall.

These come in many styles, like freestanding French door, side-by-side, plus top- and bottom-freezer refrigerator. If you’re on a budget and have an open kitchen layout, a top- or bottom-freezer fridge is your best fit.

Built-in Refrigerators

Built-in refrigerator are installed flush with your cabinetry and stand taller and wider than standard refrigerators. These come in multiple styles, including French door, side-by-side, bottom-freezer, column, and freezerless refrigerators. If you have the installation space for multiple refrigeration options, consider a column refrigerator and freezer configuration or a freezerless fridge.

Be sure to look for changeable door panels so you can hide your appliance in plain sight!

Counter-Depth Refrigerators

Counter-depth refrigerators have shallower depths than standard fridges and most often come in side-by-side or French door configurations (and also come in top- and bottom-freezer styles). Counter-depth fridges take up less space and present the seamless look you crave without breaking the bank.

French door and side-by-side refrigerators are the most popular refrigerators options to save space in compact or galley kitchens, (because of the half-width doors) and keep your fresh foods in easy reach. If you prefer a super-organized look, the shelves and door bins of a side-by-side fridge are what you need.

Compact and Other Refrigerators

Additional refrigerators come in many styles, including standard mini fridges, beverage centers, wine coolers, and kegerators.

If you need extra fridge space in places like a dorm, home bar, or den, then consider the benefits of a compact refrigerator. But if you like the seamless look of built-in appliances, then an under-the-counter refrigerator is for you.

Beverage centers and wine coolers are both dedicated drink fridges; the difference is that beverage centers can store a variety of drinks while wine chillers are made just for wine. Look for multi-zone temperature capabilities, so you can chill different drinks at their exact temperature!

Kegerators are another alternative for refreshing drinks, except these hold one or two kegs of your brew of choice (including coffee or cocktails), chilled and on tap.

Freezers and Ice Makers

Check out freezers and ice makers for more freezer space or the classic clinking of cubes in a glass!

Upright freezers look like a freestanding refrigerator, with shelves and baskets that help you organize your frozen foods.

Ice makers are the best solution if your refrigerator doesn’t have an ice maker, or if your fridge ice maker doesn’t make enough ice. Discover built-in or portable models and try out the different types of clear ice (standard cubes, crushed, nuggets, etc.).
